Weekly Figure Painting Workshops – beginning August 20

Curry Arts and Gold Beach Art Enthusiasts is excited to offer a series of weekly Figure Painting Workshops beginning Thursday, August 20th at the Gold Beach Library.

Instruction and demonstrations will be provided by local artists Alexandra Eyer and Pat Renner, both former Gold Beach art teachers who have been recognized regionally and nationally for their colorful and eye-catching paintings.

The weekly workshop series will include instruction in:

Drawing Faces
Drawing the Figure
Incorporating the Figure into Background
Adding Color
Unifying the Drawing/Painting

The Thursday workshops will begin at 10:30am and end at about 1pm and will include a 20-minute instructional demonstration followed by four, 20-minute posing sessions with a 10-minute break between each.

Following COVID safety guidelines, the workshops will take place outside in the front garden of the Gold Beach Library and will be limited to 8 participants.

Masks are required when working near other artists.

A model will be provided each week but participants should plan to bring their own art materials and may work in any drawing or painting medium that they choose. A recommended supply list can be provided upon request.

Please bring your own camp chair and lap board or standing easel as tables and chairs will not be available.

To help pay for the model’s time, there is a suggested donation of $5.00 for each weekly workshop.

If you have never tried figure painting or drawing, this is a wonderful opportunity to try something new and to learn from two very talented artists. All ages and art experience levels are welcome!

For questions or to sign-up, please contact Julie at goldbeachart@gmail.com.

*UPDATE* The Build a Bridge Mural Project is Complete! Happy 130th Birthday Gold Beach

As part of our Create and Celebrate: Happy 130th Birthday to Gold Beach art workshops, 40 Gold Beach artists recently collaborated, remotely due to social distancing restrictions, to create a 20ft long mural depicting the Isaac Lee Patterson bridge.

The artists were each provided with a “piece of the bridge” in the form of a 12×12” canvas onto which a portion of the bridge was outlined.

The artists were given no guidelines as to how they should paint their individual canvas so the resulting artwork is expressive, imaginative, and unique … just like the artists involved!

When assembled, each of the 40 canvases will tell a small story about what makes Gold Beach special while also revealing an eclectic interpretation of Gold Beach’s iconic landmark.

The Build a Bridge mural will be on display in the upstairs gallery of the Gold Beach Library beginning in July 2020.
